Abstract
Introduction and goal: Suicide is one of the psycho-social injuries with a complex nature and various risk factors. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of prediction of suicidal thoughts based on sense of coherence and aifficulty in emotion regulation in first secondary school students. Research methodology: The research was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included all male students of the first secondary level of Mashhad city in 2023 formed. 200 people were selected with available sampling method and responded to research tools including suicidal ideation questionnaire (Beck, 1991), sense of psychological coherence (Flensberg et al., 2006), and emotional regulation difficulty questionnaire (Gratz and Romer, 2004). Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation and multiple regression with simultaneous entry method and SPSS-v26 software.
Findings: The results showed that there is a negative and significant correlation between the sense of coherence (r=-0.425) and the tendency of male students to suicidal thoughts (P<0.05). This relationship between the scores of emotion regulation difficulty (r=0.538) with the tendency to suicidal thoughts was positive and significant (P<0.05). The regression analysis also showed that the predictor variables were able to explain 30% of the variance of the tendency to suicidal thoughts in male students. Conclusion: According to the results, it is possible to reduce suicidal thoughts in teenagers in critical situations by identifying emotional and psychological variables.
